Original pen and ink of Pete Rose by Bruce Stark, an award-winning N.Y. Daily News cartoonist and caricaturist who won two Reuben Awards from the New York Cartoon Society as outstanding cartoonist of the year. Stark is most renowned for his heart-breaking drawing of Roberto Clemente (deliberately half-completed), called "Unfinished Business", after the Pirates star was killed in a plane crash. This drawing was done for Pete's NL record 44 game hitting streak in 1978. Rose's assault on Joe DiMaggio's MLB record of 56 games, set in 1941, generated great national interest. Although Rose's streak was stopped on August 1st, Rose broke the National League record of 37 consecutive games set by Tommy Holmes in 1945. Left hand side shows Dom DiMaggio's streak of 34 in 1949. Right shows Tommy Holmes and his streak. Top shows Mel Ott and Ralph Branca. Signed "by Stark" at top right and also bottom right. Framed to 14x16".
