Stunning supreme quality depiction of the "Madonna of the Chair" is a very early rendition of the original by Raphael, completed in 1514. In stunning gilded frame it measures an impressive 42x42" and is unsigned, however it has not been opened so we are not sure if it is signed within. Heart-rending depiction of Madonna and Child was originally done by Raphael during or shortly after his work on the Vatican Stanza d'Eliodoro. Mary embracing the child Christ. The piece could use some minor conservation but it is easily a $20,000 piece after the work is completed. Provenance: Originally obtained from Betty Papp, a well known New Jersey antiques dealer in the early 1950s. Papp acquired it from a fine New Jersey estate around that time. This piece has been in the Solowinski Family ever since. Ray Solowinski, was a disciple of legendary photographer Richard Avedon and his wife Brynne Johnson-Solowinski, a model who once posed for the cover of LIFE magazine. Their photographic archive is also in this auction.
