Iconic circa 1941 Boston Red Sox cap game worn by the legendary Ted Williams, arguably one of the greatest hitters of all time. The cap is in a classic style of the time, with a short, floppy brim and a red "B" logo without a white background. Embroidered inside is "6 7/8 T. Williams" and the cap shows nice use. It may have been worn during one of Williams' best seasons, which came in 1941 when he batted .406 - the last time a player has posted a batting average of over .400. Our consignor received this hat from his father's friend named Ben Barron, the owner of Joslyn Cleaners who was responsible for dry cleaning the Red Sox uniforms. Not long after this hat was worn, Williams left baseball to join the Navy, and served three years in the prime of his career in the U.S. Military during World War II. His extended absence from the game makes his on-field accomplishments all the more impressive. Williams slugged 521 home runs in his career, maintained a batting average of .344 and an on-base percentage of .482, a record that still stands. Additionally, he was a 19-time All Star, two-time MVP, two-time Triple Crown winner and six-time batting champ. One of the only things that eluded him in his Hall of Fame career was winning a World Series. Rarely does a Williams cap from this era become available, and this is a fantastic specimen. Comes with a LOA from the original owner, detailing how he came to acquire this cap.
