Pair of 2006 Topps Alex Gordon cards, cards which were never intended to be issued, but were mistakenly issued and pulled after the mistake was noticed.

In 2006, even though their contract with the MLBPA forbid the printing of cards for players not yet on the 25 man roster, Topps produced this card of Royals rookie Alex Gordon, who was the consensus college player of the year in 2005, and was the No. 2 overall pick in that years MLB draft. Most people thought Gordon would make the Royals team in 2006, and Topps thought they would get the upper hand on UPPER DECK, by including Gordon in their set. However, Gordon played the entire 2006 season in AA and Topps had to remove the card from their sets, and most were pulled (and destroyed) before being distributed. As is usually the case, some cards leaked out and were selling for thousands of dollars each. This was the first time wince 1958 Topps pulled cards from their regular issued set. When some Gordon cards were found, Topps "altered" the card by cutting gout the image and most other information. This is the cut out version of the card as part of this two-card lot

Very scarce cards of the pre-rookie cards of Alex Gordon, the regular card which was issued and puled from circulation, plus the Topps factory performed "cut out" example.
