This unique and interesting offering is a pillowcase illustrated by boxing great Muhammad Ali. Born Cassius Clay, Ali changed his name and converted to Islam in the mid-1960s, claiming that Cassius Clay was his "slave name." Ali is unquestionably one of the most influential athletes of all time. His unbridled braggadocio is best remembered by the phrase "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" and he was almost always able to back up his outlandish claims in the ring. The Greatest, trying his hand at drawing, penned a rather primitive scene of a mosque, with people, cars, trees and birds, as well as a rocket ship flying overhead. A crescent moon can also be seen above the mosque - a gentle reminder of his medium's intended use. The drawing takes up the entire pillowcase and is signed, "To Bilal, from, By Muhammad Ali, Sept 20-83 NY." Bilal refers to Bilal Seiyid Mohammed (Norman Barrett), who was the manager of Matthew Saad Muhammed, the Light Heavyweight Champion of the world at the time. On September 23, 1980, Ali was in NYC for the 20th Anniversary of the WBC. The linen pillowcase, used by Ali at NY training camp, shows use, and is framed to 34x34".
