Done by artist C.M. Coolidge of "Dogs Playing Poker" fame, this fantastic offering is a 1909 "Dogs Playing Baseball" print in its original Red Seal tobacco frame. The frame features Jessum baseball figures of a bat, baseball, and five-finger glove, as well as a cigar and cigarette (a couple of pieces are missing to the applique). There is also a caption of "One to tie, two to win" on the bottom right corner of the frame and a Red Seal emblem on the top right. The scene, as its title would suggest, depicts dogs playing and watching a baseball game. The packed stadium shows a seemingly boisterous crowd, as most of the canine spectators are pictured with their mouths agape. The on-field competitors seem to have the markings of Border Collies, which would certainly jibe with the breed's athleticism. The framed print, measuring 15x18.25" is perfect for a baseball/tobacco cult collection, and was likely hung in a tobacconist. It was also signed by Coolidge, whose original 1894 "Poker Game" sold at auction for 658k in 2015.
