The 1967 NFL Championship Game will forever live in the annals of football lore. Known as the "Ice Bowl," the game was played in extreme cold, with the game-time temperature hovering around -15 degrees Fahrenheit (though this offering lists it as 13 degrees) and a wind chill averaging about -48. To make matters worse, the Lambeau Field turf-heating system malfunctioned before the game, and residual moisture on the field immediately froze in the frigid conditions. The ensuing action provided what is considered to be one of the greatest games in NFL history, with the Green Bay Packers edging the Dallas Cowboys 21-17. This section of goalpost from that game was presented to Packers safety Willie Wood, who played his entire career in Green Bay and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989, by two die-hard Packers fans: Chuck Vannes and Jeri Deprey. The goalpost is mounted on a plaque, and reads in nice, contrasting green lettering "3rd Consecutive NFL Championship, Dec. 31, 1967, Won at Green Bay, Temp. 13°". This item was recently found and is the first section of goalpost from the game we've come across. It measures 8.5x11.25".
