Pitcher Tony Freitas burst onto the baseball scene in 1932 by going 12-5 for the Philadelphia Athletics. The Mill Valley, California, native even made Ripley’s Believe it or Not for holding an amazing seven baseballs in one hand. This collection of nine game-used baseballs includes rare artifacts from baseball in the 1930s and were used in historic stadiums like the Polo Grounds, Crosley Field, Old Comiskey Park, Wrigley Field and Ebbets Field. These balls are either Official NL or AL balls with Frick, Heydler or Harridge noted on the stamp. Each ball describes what happened in the game it came from and includes legendary players like Dizzy Dean, Ernie Lombardi and Lefty Grove. In fact, Grove came on and pitched in relief of Freitas in three of these contests. Each ball has the handwritten boxscore, opposing players, and stadium noted on the panels. These rare baseballs show definite game use and the writing is clear and legible on all nine with some minor fading. These baseballs offer a unique portal back to a more innocent era in the game’s history.
