More than 50 individual strands of hair from the great Secretariat's mane make up this unique offering. Secretariat is one of the most famous racehorses in history, having won the Triple Crown in 1973 and retiring with more than $1 million in career earnings. Though best known for his exploits on dirt, the hulking chestnut closed out his career with two starts on turf, making his swan song in the Canadian International at Woodbine. This hair was obtained on October 29, 1973, immediately following his start in the Canadian International, which he won by 6 1/2 lengths, by an employee for Murty Bros. Horse Transportation. The consignor helped get Secretariat off the plane when he flew into JFK from Canada, and was able to nab a lock of his hair in the process. The hair was formerly displayed in the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame and comes with an LOA from the consignor.
