This game-worn Mario Lemieux jersey is yet another fascinating piece from the treasure trove that is the Craig Patrick Collection. The jersey comes from March 8, 1997, when the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2 in overtime. The game was a thriller, but it was made even more special because then-GM Craig Patrick notched his first win as interim head coach after letting Eddie Johnston go. Patrick, who had orchestrated back-to-back Stanley Cup championships earlier in the decade as GM, was no stranger to the bench, however, as he had previously served as assistant coach to Herb Brooks during the "Miracle on Ice" run. The home jersey has seen some use, including black stick marks on the right sleeve, and was presented to Patrick after the game. The Penguins crest on the front is signed by Lemieux, with his number "66" appearing on the back and both sleeves. "LEMIEUX" is sewn on a name plate on the back and his captain's "C" on the left chest area. Starter tagging can be found in the collar with an additional "58-R" tag that has "66 C" written on it in marker. There is a special "66 LEMIEUX '96-97" tag sewn inside the tail and written inside the jersey behind the crest is "1st coaching win 3/8/97 vs. Flyers."
