A gleaming tribute to a historic season, this World Series Championship ring presented to the 2004 Boston Red Sox is an absolute masterpiece and the embodiment of sport at its finest. The Red Sox entered the 2004 season with an 86-year-old monkey on their backs. They had endured more than eight decades of the "Curse of the Bambino," so-named because the Sox sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1918, the last time they won a World Series. Adding insult to injury, they were eliminated in the 2003 ALCS by the Yankees, felled by a walk-off home run off the bat of Aaron "Effing" Boone. Bolstered by off-season additions Curt Schilling and Keith Foulke, the Red Sox were determined to not let history repeat itself. They doubled-down on their commitment to shed their star-crossed reputation when they dealt former face of the franchise Nomar Garciaparra just before the trade deadline. The controversial move worked, as a galvanized Sox squad rattled off wins in 22 of 25 games following the trade, and snuck into the playoffs as the wild card. The playoffs began auspiciously for the team as they swept the Angels in the ALDS, but the Sox seemed doomed to fail again as they fell behind 3-0 to their nemesis, the New York Yankees, in the ALCS. In perhaps one of the most famous games in baseball history, the Red Sox pulled off the impossible. Trailing 4-3 in the ninth inning of Game 4 and facing Yanks closer Mariano Rivera, pinch-runner Dave Roberts sparked the comeback by stealing second base. He was promptly driven in by Bill Mueller, and David Ortiz cracked a home run in extra innings to win it. Ortiz again played hero in Game 5 with a walk-off hit. In Game 6, Curt Schilling turned in a herculean effort best known for the bloody sock he wore, and Boston again prevailed. The Sox romped in Game 7 to become only the third team in history at the time to win a best-of-seven series after being down 3-0. Maintaining the momentum from their historic comeback, Boston made short work of the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series, winning in four games and at long last standing atop baseball's Everest again. This 18k, white gold ring shimmers with all the splendor of that fateful season, and was presented to a member of the Sox front office. The interior band reads "86 Years, 10-27-04, Josten's 18k". The face features the Boston logo, the "B" all in rubies, with 14 diamonds on a baseball field serving as its backdrop, surrounded by four sapphires. An additional 56 diamonds encircle the face, which reads "World Champions." One shank reads "Greatest Comeback In History 2004," while the other features the World Series trophy inside Fenway Park. Comes in original cherry wood presentation box. The ring, size 6 1/2 and weighing 66.1 grams, is MINT, and is an absolutely stunning piece of memorabilia.
