Another fascinating pair of items from the Cal Hubbard Collection. Hubbard rose to prominence as a professional football player during the 1920s and '30s, while his affiliation with baseball comes from his time as an umpire and later a supervisor. He is the only person to have been inducted into both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Baseball Hall of Fame. This offering comes from his time as an umpire and includes his indicator and 1951 record book. The front of the indicator reads "Balls, Strikes" and the numbers are MINT. The record book (22 games) denotes the number of balls started with, balls left in bag, balls used in game and new balls needed tomorrow. Each has the date, what is believed to be the time of game, name of the 3rd base umpire and Hubbard's signature as umpire-in-chief. Only the first page, 8/1/51 Yankees, is handwritten by Hubbard, while the remaining pages are carbon copies with the originals removed. Includes Allie Reynolds's 2nd no-hitter of 1951 on 9/28. Both come from the family of Cal Hubbard.
