THIS LOT WAS RECENTLY SHOWCASED IN A FORBES ARTICLE WRITTEN BY DAVID SEIDEMAN

Graded by PSA GOOD 2. Issued only in the New York market, for three years the Stahl-Meyer Meat company inserted 3.25x4.5" cards of Yankees, Dodgers and Giants players into packages of franks from 1953 to 1955, and created the most difficult regional food issues in baseball card history. These sets are highly desirable, are very attractive, very condition-sensitive and extremely rare, with the 1954 issue being more scarce than the other two. In addition, each of the three sets contained a card of Yankee superstar (and hobby stalwart) Mickey Mantle. Leland's is offering an example of the scarce 1954 Stahl-Meyer Mickey Mantle card, graded and authenticated by PSA GOOD 2. There are issues here, with several small creases and some staining, both of which are very common. However, the card displays well and examples do not appear at auction very often. Only 94 cards of 1954 Stahl-Meyer issue TOTAL have been authenticated by PSA, with a short supply of 13 Mantle cards. This PSA GOOD 2 is bettered by a PSA VG 3, PSA VG-EX 4, a qualified PSA 4 and amazingly a PSA NM 7. This issue is so difficult that only four cards TOTAL have graded above PSA VG-EX 4. This card is extremely rare and, while technically a "lower grade," is better conditioned than most of the known graded examples. One of the rarest Mickey Mantle cards in the hobby.
