Consider this. The twentieth century was one of advancements in all fields of human endeavor that far surpassed any other in human history. In technology, science and communications there have been giant steps for mankind. It almost makes one forget the unprecedented human advances that shaped the way an entire minority race was perceived by the majority. In that sense, the contributions of Edison, the Wright Brothers and Bill Gates pale beside those of two brave African-American men who stood rock solid before the angry masses and asserted their humanity. Had Jackie Robinson or Martin Luther King, Jr. never lived, the world would be a quite different place. In that sense, it goes without saying that this may be the most important piece ever offered by Leland's Auctions. This inspiring first edition autobiography was given as a gift by the author to the man whose "dream" was bolstered seventeen years earlier when Robinson took the field for the first time as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Perfect 10/10 blue ink inscription is dated "4-7-64" on the opening page reads as follows: "To Dr. Martin Luther King with the deepest of admiration. Your dedication and sincerity has been an inspiration to millions of Americans. You have added to the lives of most of us and we appreciate it so very much. May God continue to guide and bless you and may your devotion to the principles under which this country was founded. I hope you enjoy Baseball Has Done It. You inspired much of it. Sincerely, Jackie Robinson." Book shows wear at edges but is in solid condition.
