Dinner menu from The Rock’s final game signed by the men that helped make him a legend. The Notre Dame All Stars vs. New York Football Giants charity game at Polo Grounds on December 14, 1930, became his last ever when Flight 599 went down in the Kansas prairie. Rockne was on his way to Los Angeles to begin production on the film, The Spirit of Notre Dame (1931). Menu from the night of the game was given by “The Notre Dame of New York to Knute Rockne” and is signed by eight Notre Dame legends: Rockne, Hunk Anderson (succeeded Rockne as coach), Adam Walsh (one of the Seven Mules), Roger Kiley (prominent ND end and later U.S. Federal Judge), Bob Reagan and the Four Horsemen: Jim Crowley, Harry Stuhldreher, Don Miller and Elmer Layden. Anderson and Rockne are in pencil, Rockne a tad light. Rest are in NM ink. Program measures 4.25x6" and is glued to a scrapbook page along with seven tickets including an otherwise NM stub from the 1935 Army-Notre Dame 6-6 tie “Game of the Century.” Comes from the family of Bob Phelan, who was roommates with another immortal, George Gipp. If you are lucky you can find pieces signed by Knute Rockne and you can find pieces signed by the Four Horsemen. Pieces signed by both are almost impossible.
