Game worn skates used during the 1965 season by Mr. Gordie Howe himself. Each features the illustrious "Howe" nameplate on the bottom of each skate in familiar red “Red Wings” dymotape. Use is tremendous, they carry the well-earned battle scars from at the very least a full season of wear, yet remain in brilliantly preserved overall condition. CCMs are a size 7.5 and have that rare look that of when you look at them you can literally see Gordie Howe skating on the home ice of Olympia Stadium. Most importantly, we have clear, airtight chain of ownership and supporting documentation tracing the skates from Gordie Howe right to you. Originally these were presented by Gordie Howe to Ross "Lefty" Wilson, the longtime Detroit Red Wings player, trainer and goalie mask maker extraordinaire. Winner of four Stanley Caps, Wilson will go down into hockey lore for making the original, iconic Terry Sawchuk mask, one of the most important innovations in the history of the sport. Lefty passed these skates to his son Ross Wilson, who gave them as a gift to a gentleman who consigned them to a previous Leland's auction. They are now being reconsigned by the buyer in that auction. The piece will come with a Letter of Authenticity and provenance from Leland's Auctions detailing the province, chain of title and guaranteeing their authenticity. One of the more iconic pieces possible in the age of hockey. And with airtight authenticity and provenance increasing this lot to the pantheon of hockey memorabilia. Untold numbers of volumes have been written to tell the tale of the career of the legendary Gordie Howe. So, there is nothing this meager writer can add to further illuminate his importance. The dear departed “Mr. Hockey” earned that moniker for a reason and these skates perfectly represent that name.
