Used in January 1980, shortly before the Miracle on Ice, Team USA goaltender Jim Craig wielded this stick in a pre-Olympic game against the University of Wisconsin Badgers. Our consignor's family was close with Bob Suter, and they were given access to the locker room with Craig giving him this stick after the game. The Northland goalie stick's blade is wrapped in clear tape with a nail from display protruding through it, and there are holes in the shaft presumably from mounting. Signed by Craig, Suter, Mark Johnson, Dave Christian and Bill Baker, there is a "Craig" nameplate on the shaft with handwritten "30," and the back of the blade has "Jim Craig's Team USA 1980" handwritten in unknown hand. Tape has been removed from the butt end and a serial number is stamped on the shaft. Just weeks after that exhibition victory, Craig would backstop his group of mostly collegians to an improbable Gold Medal at Lake Placid, upsetting the mighty Soviet Union team in the process.
