Used by the one and only Wayne Gretzky, this original Koho 221 stick shows heavy game use by the Great One during his 1978-79 rookie season with the WHA's Edmonton Oilers. Given to our consignor by Gretzky himself at a Birmingham Bulls game, it shows heavy use with "Gretzky" nameplate on shaft and tape on the blade of the left-handed stick. The original tape from the handle has been removed, leaving visible residue, and this stick was broken and repaired with tape and nails. After playing the first eight games of his career with the Indianapolis Racers in the WHA, he was traded to the Oilers, who were merged into the NHL the following year and went on to win five Stanley Cups thanks largely to Gretzky's greatness.
