A rarity with a wonderful place in sports history, offered here is an outfit match-worn in 1974 by Billie Jean King for the Philadelphia Freedoms of World Team Tennis. The button-front outfit is navy blue with trademark white collar and white Liberty Bells surrounding the bottom of the dress, with Ted Tingling manufacturer tag inside the neck."Freedoms" is embroidered in red in the front bell and above is "Philadelphia," photo-style match with images included. If the team name sounds familiar, it should - though they only played in WTT for the 1974 season, the Freedoms have a place in tennis, and music, history. Elton John was a huge fan of the team and wrote and named his hit song, "Philadelphia Freedom," specifically for Billie Jean and the team. Released as a single, Elton's tribute soared to the top of the US charts. King went on to win 39 Grand Slam titles and was one of the founders of World Team Tennis, and is still today a fighter for social justice.
