This is a wonderful portrait, oil on canvas painting, that has a folk art appeal and a great pedigree. It is portrays Hall of Fame Jockey Edward "Snapper" Garrison, signed and dated 1887 by Charles L. Zellinsky. Zellinsky was an American artist who was a lithographer for Currier & Ives specializing in horses and horse racing. Research and you will find many a Currier and Ives horse racing print executed by Chas. L. Zellinsky. Known for their prolific work in producing prints and lithographs by artists, this firm's lithographs depicted American life for the masses. In the original gold gilted frame, overall measures 12.5x16.5" and condition overall is EX+.
