As far as Major League debuts go, Hall of Famer Frank Robinson had a pretty good one, collecting two hits and a walk during his Reds' 4-2 setback to the Cardinals in Cincinnati. This Official National League (Giles) baseball was used during the ceremonial first pitch and it is inscribed: "FIRST BALL THROWN IN SEASON OPENER BY MAYOR CHARLES A. TAFT IN CINCINNATI APRIL 17th, 1956 - CARDINALS - 4, CINCINNATI - 2." The ball comes from the family of Major League player Hal R. Smith.
