Considered the first "International" World Championship boxing match, John Carmel Heenan and Tom Sayers squared off in a bare-knuckle bout on April 17, 1860. This snuff box, measuring about 5" across, is original to right around the time of the fight or perhaps a little bit after. The lid is engraved with "Sayers vs. Heenan" and a rendition of a fight in progress, it is made of brass and in EX condition with hinged lid. Per the rules of the time, the combatants battled each other for over two hours and in excess of 40 rounds before spectators and police stormed the ring, rendering the match a draw.
