Just 16 days after America suffered its deadliest terrorist attack, Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa appealed to patriotic Americans by running the bases at Wrigley Field while carrying a flag after his home run vs. Houston on September 27, 2001 - his 59th homer of the season. Offered here is the very helmet Sosa was wearing during that famous home run trot, and it has been photomatched. Signed and heavily inscribed: "God Bless America Helmet I Wore As I Ran Around Bases with Flag 9-11-01." There is an American Flag on the side of the helmet, "21" on the back along with Sosa hologram. It is a Size 7 with heavy pine tar on the brim and top. Comes with Sosa signed LOA and PSA LOA. Sosa told first base coach and ex-Cubs star Billy Williams he had planned to homer that night and hid the small flag in his sock, taking it out after slamming Shane Reynolds' pitch over the wall. "It was an emotional moment," Sosa said after the game. "I wanted to do something, I wanted to pay tribute to the people hurt in 9/11. That's how I could show respect." The Astros won the game, 6-5, Williams still has the flag but you can take home the helmet by stepping up to the plate with the highest bid!
