One of the gravest periods of this nation’s history was captured in every gory detail within the 1962 Topps Civil War News card set. This 88 card set includes cards of both North and South leaders, President Abraham Lincoln and the South’s President Jefferson Davis. The chronologically-issued set begins with the infamous Harper’s Ferry, VA, raid in 1859 by John Brown and culminates with Gen. Robert E. Lee’s signing surrender papers at Appomattox, VA, in 1965. In between, all the major battles are represented in full color. The set grades EX to NM, with a few lesser and includes the very tough checklist, although this example is heavily marked.
