An interesting behind-the-scenes image of religious leader and follower, this shot chronicles the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and Muhammad Ali. Elijah was the leader of the "Nation of Islam" in it's infancy and developed the group from a small movement in Detroit to an empire. He went to prison for his failure to register for the draft during World War II and then faced eight counts of sedition for instructing his followers to do the same. He advised Muhammad Ali when the latter was drafted for the Vietnam War, which resulted in the fighter's three-year suspension in 1967. This medium format from-the-camera original black and white negative comes with a vintage contact print, and is in NM-MT condition. The original negatives and images in this collection are by the personal photographer of Ali's manager Herbert Muhammad. Unpublished, they have not seen the light of day for five decades. Recently discovered, they come with the photographer’s rights. All of the negs/transparencies are unique, “Type I” images that can be used to make prints and products of the finest quality and huge scale.
