Exceptional candid images, these only could be captured by someone close to Ali. The champ is serene and in repose, reading "Jet Magazine" and relaxing in bed. Jet Magazine was in its prime, an American weekly appealing to primarily African-American readers. The lot consists of two from-the-camera 2.25" strips of black and white negatives with matching contact prints also consecutive and from the period thus, Type I, measuring 2.5x7.25" and in NM-MT condition.
The original negatives and images in this collection are by the personal photographer of Muhammad Ali's manager Herbert Muhammad. Unpublished, they have not seen the light of day for five decades. Recently discovered, they come with the photographer’s rights. All of the negs/transparencies are unique, “Type I” images that can be used to make prints and products of the finest quality and huge scale.
