Cartoonist Ken Kling put pen-to-paper in this original hand-drawn piece. It is inscribed, "With Best Wishes, Ken Kling" on the bottom right corner, and the art measures 7x17", matted and framed to 11x22". It is dated "2-24" in the bottom corner, and writing on the back appears to indicate that it is part of his "Joe and Asbestos" series from 1940. The strip portrays an elite horse race with the likes of Man o' War and War Admiral, with the final frame showing recurring character "Asbestos" - in pronounced blackface style - taking a nap on his horse, which has lagged well behind the pack. There is a fold across the original piece, but this remains a classic vintage work.
