James J. Corbett was born on September 1, 1866, in San Francisco, California and he won the World Heavyweight Title from John L. Sullivan on September 7, 1892. Corbett retired after losing to Jim Jeffries on August 14, 1903, with a final record of 11-4-2 with 2 no contests and 7 KOs. Here is an original, two-sided, advertising supplement poster of James J. Corbett, as champion, sponsoring the book PORTRAIT GALLERY OF PUGILISTS OF AMERICA by Billy Edwards. This was issued as a supplement to the New York Recorder on September 16, 1894. This paper supplement poster pictures Corbett in fight pose with bold print and a bold, clear image of Corbett. Matted in VG condition with several creases and minor edge wear, it measures 11x14.5".
