A painting from the English School, this is an inspiring portrait of the most famous American boxer, John L. Sullivan, recognized as the first Heavyweight Champion of gloved boxing, one of the most important titles in the annals of sporting history. In the 1890s, every brothel hung a reclining full-figured nude in addition to a painting of this celebrated boxer, which features a burly and muscle-bound Sullivan in his most common pose, resplendent with his trademark handlebar mustache. It comes in an original antique frame which has been slightly touched up but is in lovely condition. Measurements are 11.5x13" framed, and the piece is in NRMT condition.
