Offered here are the actual silks worn by Hall of Fame jockey Jorge Velasquez, Jr, while riding the beloved Alydar in all three Triple Crown races in 1978. Nothing in the history of the Sport of Kings can compare to the rivalry generated by Affirmed and Alydar. In the ESPN-produced special, Sports Greatest Rivalries, the 1978 Triple Crown featuring Affirmed-Alydar not only qualified as the greatest rivalry in the annals of racing, but it transcended the sport itself, making it a part of pop culture akin to Ali versus Frazier. Losing by a combined total of just two lengths, the star-crossed Alydar is the only horse in racing history to finish second in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont. Inducted into the racing Hall of Fame in 1989, Bloodhorse Magazine ranked Alydar 27th on its list of Top 100 U.S. Thoroughbred Champions of the 20th Century. But the story of Alydar is not just about his brilliance as an athlete or his historical impact as a sire. Alydar was racing's equivalent of a Greek tragedy. You see, there are those who believe Alydar the victim of a mob hit so Calumet could collect on its $50 million insurance policy. There exists very few, if any, race worn items associated with Alydar; certainly none of this magnitude. In addition, Jorge wore these same silks aboard the great filly Davona Dale, while piloting her to horse racing history as the only filly ever to win both the National Filly Triple Crown and the NY Filly Triple Crown. Comes with LOA from Jorge Velasquez.
