This investment-grade bat has been graded a PSA8 by respected bat aficionado John Taube. An extremely early in his career bat, the markings definitively date this to the 1925-1926 period, the dawning of one of the great sports careers in America. Fresh from the fields of Columbia University, the young Lou Gehrig would first make his mark during that 1926 season. The fresh-faced 23-year old collegian hid a determination that has never been equaled. There was his breakout season where he first came out from under the formidable shadow of The Babe and the statistics tell the tale: he batted .313 with 47 doubles, American League-leading 20 triples, 16 home runs, and 112 RBI. Making his mark in the 1926 World Series, Gehrig hit .348 with two doubles and four RBIs. This sumptuous looking Hillerich & Bradsby gamer has the very desirable LARGE lettered "Lou Gehrig" facsimile signature on the barrel. Neat stampings run extremely deep, giving this an incredible display look. The wood is luscious and has a glowing grain, making this one of the prettiest Gehrig bats you will ever see - IF you ever see one. Uncracked but it still shows good use, making it that perfect balance. A moderate 35" in length and a powerful 37.7 ounces in weight, it PERFECTLY matches Louisville Slugger factory records for this period. This is the one to own - an extremely rare bat and the ultimate representation of the "Iron Horse."
