The "Titan of the Turf," the mighty Wise Dan caught American racing off-guard just a few years ago with brilliance on turf that hadn’t been seen in decades. It wasn’t until he dominated the Breeders’ Cup World Championships (twice) against the very best International horses from around the globe that he became an American icon and the pride or our nation. Arguably the greatest turf miler in American history, there was a time early in his career where Wise Dan was a mild mannered gelding grinding it out against dirt horses – yet to find his calling on the greener side, which earned him unprecedented championships, eleven grade one wins, back-to-back victories in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, and earnings of $7,552,920. This extraordinarily rare saddle cloth was used by Wise Dan in the 2011 Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs (on dirt) and is believed to be the only race-worn saddle cloth ever offered at auction.
