This "home base" saw its share of big-league action throughout the course of the 1985 season at Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium, the chief game being Pete Rose's historic record-breaking night of September 11. Rose singled to left-center field in the first inning that night against Padres starter Eric Show to officially surpass Ty Cobb with career hit #4,192, then added a triple later in the game for good measure. The plate shows heavy use and comes with a letter from Joe Dapkins, who was the Reds' Field Superintendent in 1985. Dapkins states that he removed the plate after the conclusion of the 1985 season and wrote on the back: "Pete Rose Plate For 4192 Hit." This exact wording can be seen on the wooden backing of the plate, making it a great piece of the utmost historical significance. The Reds finished second in the National League West in 1985 with an 89-72 record, including a 47-34 mark at home, and this "dish" was there for each and every one of those games at Riverfront.
