Though the wrong date is inscribed on the baseball, this is indeed the very baseball used by hall of Famer Gaylord Perry when he struck out his 1,000th major league batter on September 28, 1968. Opposing pitcher Joe Nolan of the Reds bunted a third strike in the fourth inning for the milestone whiff at Cincinnati's Crosley Field. Notated in vintage ink on a side panel of this official National League (Giles) baseball is: "1,000 Strike Out 9/29/68" though the game actually took place the previous day. The ball shows good use.
