One of the finest hockey sticks ever offered for auction. Considered at the time to be the greatest goaltender in hockey. But on February 22, 1980, Vladislav Tretiak was pulled from the game by coach Viktor Tikhonov after a late first-period goal to Mark Johnson. This undoubtedly contributyed to the USA "Miracle on Ice" victory that led the way to a shocking upset and memorable Gold Medal. This is the actual stick used by the Ukraine-born Tretiak's that he famously broke in the Russian game. Showing excellent use from throughout the Lake Placid games this Koho is custom taped on the handle and blade, and shows terrific use. After it was cracked it was handed to a lucky fan. Instead of holding the stick, the fan gave it to one of the volunteer workers to hold until the end of the game. The fan never came back to claim the stick and the worker kept the stick for herself. Comes with an LOA from that very young lady who obtained the stick from the fan and ended up taking the stick home!
