Dating back to the 1890s, this fascinating collection of autographs and assorted ephemera is truly one-of-a-kind. The weathered fountain-pen inscribed label on the lid identifies it as being from the Whitney family of Boston, Massachusetts, and an amazing history is contained within. A handy listing of autographs only scratches the surface of this treasure trove, as many included hand-penned inscriptions as well. Eight US presidents are included, with the likes of Grover Cleveland, William McKinley, and Dwight Eisenhower, up to as recent as George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. Astronaut John Glenn, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, and sports stars Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, and Jean Claude Killy speak to the diversity of this collection. The leather-bound book measures 6.5x8", with the most recent autograph dated in 2004 and many blank pages to carry on the tradition. Also included are dozens of loose newspaper articles, images, and additional autographs. The box is weathered and has been preserved with duct tape at the edges, but this piece, well over a century in the making, is a classic sure to provide hours of fascinating research.
