When the brilliant Medaglia d'Oro retired from racing in 2004 with over $5.7 million in earnings, his resume was as elite as it gets in the sport: He finished first or 2nd in 15 of his 17 career starts, winning the Travers, the Whitney and the Donn Handicap, and finishing 2nd in the Dubai World Cup, the Belmont and both the 2002 and 2003 Breeders' Cup Classics.
