This one's a heartbreaker. Four days after his death, Lou Gehrig's mother wrote this letter in her own hand and sent it to a woman named Alice, to whom she confides "the last two years have been terrible," referencing how ill her son was the past six months and that "we are so glad he is not suffering anymore." The letter, including envelope, as well as a restrike photo of "The Iron Horse" is part of this framed display that measures 14.5" x 30.5". Exactly one month after his passing, the Yankees dedicated a monument to Gehrig in centerfield in Yankee Stadium.
