This is the original version of FDR's cover by Ernest Hamlin Baker for the 1941 "Man of the Year" issue published on January 5, 1942. This is the original version, just slightly changed in the second draft. The image was reproduced for Naval Magazine in October 1999 and was recently loaned to the Smithsonian. Baker drew this image just days after the attack on Pearl Harbor and revised it slightly afterward to include Churchill and Stalin for the finished product. The piece itself is 11" x10", in pencil/charcoal on heavy artist's board. Archivally framed to 18.5" x 20.5" overall.
