It was the horse race that stopped the nation. On November 1, 1938, Seabiscuit and War Admiral went head-to-head in the match race at Baltimore's Pimlico Racetrack. The match-up was so captivating, President Franklin Roosevelt reportedly halted an important meeting at the White House to tune in to the radio broadcast with over 40-million other Americans. This painting, entitled “The Admiral vs. The Biscuit,” captures a moment in that unforgettable race. Painted by Geoffrey Smith and signed by the artist, it displays magnificently in its 24x30” gilt frame. Smith was one of the country's most beloved painters of horseracing scenes, as well as more scenic fare such as beaches and harbor views.
