A contrite letter from an unforgiving pitcher. Grover Cleveland Alexander was playing semipro ball with the Galesburg Boosters in the Class D Illinois–Missouri League when his career was almost ended after having been struck by a thrown ball while running the bases, finishing his 1909 season. Before he regained his form on the mound the following year with the Syracuse Stars, the future Hall of Famer wrote this letter to unspecified boys, apologizing for their lack of access somewhere and his instructions to gain access in the future, complete with contact name. The tough-to-find, handwritten letter is dated January 21, 1939, and the full G C Alexander signature is 9/10. There are typical letter fold lines from having been mailed.
