On September 7, 1892, at the Olympic Club in New Orleans, Louisiana, James J. Corbett won the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship by knocking out John L. Sullivan in the 21st round. Corbett's new scientific boxing technique enabled him to dodge Sullivan's rushing attacks, and wear him down with jabs. This was the first gloved contest for the heavyweight championship. Offered here is an original, full ticket to this event. It names the fighters, venue and date and has some small creases, but not torn. Printed on heavy stock, has minor edge and corner wear. Minor foxing on the front and back of the ticket. Exhibits some back damage. 3.25x4.25"2 One of most sought after boxing tickets in the hobby.
