Umpire-turned-artist George Soznak transformed a Willie Mays-signed baseball into another vibrant work of art. This meticulously crafted piece details all of the Hall of Famer's feats and heralds his most famous play - "The Catch" - when Mays ran down Vic Wertz's blast to deep center field at the Polo Grounds during the 1954 World Series, snaring the drive over his shoulder while running at full speed with his back to the plate. Mays' Cooperstown plaque is also reproduced here by Soznak as he fills every possible iota of space on the ball with the exception of Willie's autograph. He even colored the stitches. A tour de force for the eyes, Sosnak's work has grown exponentially through the years in terms of collector respect and price. This is one of his finest pieces as we know.
