From the collection of a well-known, well-blessed retriever of baseball who roamed the confines of Wrigley Field for decades. The wind was blowing out on the North Side of Chicago on the Friday afternoon of August 2, 1963 as the Cubs rallied from six down in the eighth inning to stun San Francisco in a classic Wrigley slugfest, 12-11 in 10 innings. During the contest, Hall of Fame legend Willie Mays crushed his 393rd career home run in the top of the 7th inning, temporarily giving his Giants a 6-4 lead. The official National League (Giles) baseball shows the perfect type of use and is labeled in pen by the famed Chicago ball hawk who retrieved it. Mays has signed the ball in vintage 4/10 ink with the following written on it: "August 2nd, 1963 #35, Lifetime Homer #403"-mislabeled but this ball was hit on the date of August 2 and is #393 instead of #403 as labeled - a check of updated records shows that Mays connected that day against Cubs pitcher Don Elston. The ball was also marked with a "13" on the sweet spot by the person who retrieved it as this was his own identification number for the baseball. This is 100% right and the material from this collection is well-known and respected throughout the land.
