Very unusual piece for the earliest of football headgear, these wonderful stocking caps. Ivy League football of this era was THE ONLY place to be, as this very early mounted photograph illustrates. Two are holding melon-sized footballs and "88 Varsity foot ball team, D.C." is written on the mount. Photographer's cartouche is at the bottom-right corner. EX-MT photo, mount is VG. 19.5" x 16.5" in original wood frame. Full schedules and results from the 1988 season are hard to come by but there is a recording of at least three wins and two losses that season for the Big Green. One of the nicest early football photos we have seen.
