Hall of Fame outfielder Chuck Hafey was a strong line-drive hitter with a cannon arm, and he won perhaps the closest batting race ever, hitting .349 in 1931 to beat the Giants' Bill Terry by just .0002, and teammate Jim Bottomley by .0007. This very rare bat measures 36", weighs 35.1 ounces and has a cracked handle that has been repaired with nails. It's a pre-model number era Hillerich & Bradsby bat but its dimensions conform to the H4 model on his records. Shows nice game use, with several ball marks and ball stitch impressions, The 36" length is stamped into the knob. Hafey - a pitcher whom Branch Rickey converted to an outfielder after seeing him tear around the bases, played 13 seasons in the majors, exclusively with the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds. He finished his career with an impressive .317 lifetime batting average.
