Floyd Patterson began his professional career in 1952 after winning a gold medal in the 1952 summer Olympics in the middleweight division. Patterson fought most of his early professional fights in the New York-Brooklyn area. He began as a middleweight, but quickly grew into the light heavyweight and finally the heavyweight division in 1956. In his early career Patterson was an active fighter entering the ring 4 times in 1952, 5 times in 1953, 10 times in 1954, 9 times in 1955 and 3 times in 1956 leading up to the heavyweight championship fight he won over Archie Moore in November, 1956. Patterson lost once between 1952 and 1956, a decision loss to experienced former light heavyweight champion Joey Maxim. Offered here are a pair of boxing trunks used in one of fights in the early 1950's. The trunks are white satin with black trim and have an Everlast label at front center waistband. The trunks show heavy wear with substantial wear and fading of the Everlast label. Cannot be attributed to a specific fight. From the collection of Floyd Patterson.
