After a great start, the 1898 Cincinnati Red held on to first place for most of the season, but fell behind the Boston Beaneaters in September, finishing the season in third place. Chronicling the collapse of Buck Ewing's Reds, this superb Jacob Morse pocket scorebook was used by an important Cincinnati baseball writer of the period. The pages are filled with Reds' games from September and October against the Cleveland Spiders, Louisville Colonels, and St. Louis Browns. Top players include Cy Young, Bobby Wallace, Bid McPhee, and a 24-year old Honus Wagner in his second year. There is a beautiful Wright & Ditson ad on verso. The cover is worn and a few of the pages are separated, but nearly all the pages are filled with stats.
