Iconic piece of memorabilia came from an artist friend of Andy’s with a rock solid letter of provenance. Pictured here is a 1968 photograph of Andy Warhol wearing a similar style Schott jacket. This jacket here appears to be from the early 1980s. The jacket was made by the classic leather jacket manufacturer Schott who made such legendary leather jackets as the one Marlon Brando wore in the film "The Wild One" and Bruce Springsteen's epic "Born to Run" cover jacket. The lot includes a signed letter from the single named artist “Baychar” who owned the jacket until recently. Baychar knew Warhol well, and was encouraged by Andy to drop her second name similar to the way he famously dropped the “a” in his birth name “Warhola” to become “Andy Warhol.” Baychar was given the jacket by their common friend, Dr. Robert Bishop, the Founder and Director of the American Folk Art Museum. Dr. Bishop gave the jacket to Baychar at a visit to his home when he was dying of AIDS. Andy Warhol had given Dr. Bishop this jacket after a “great night out on the town.”
