This splendid watercolor rendering of the great St. Louis second baseman measures 14 1/2x 8 1/2", and a total of 25 x 19 1/2" including matting and frame. The portrait by Dick Perez is primarily a head-and-shoulders of Hornsby, with a black and white inset overlaid in the bottom right corner showing him extending to make a catch, ball in glove. Hornsby hit .358 over his career, which spanned from 1915-1937. Perhaps the high-water mark of his Hall of Fame career was the 1924 season in which he batted .424. This information is also contained on a small plate on the back of the portrait. Aside from a small scuff on the face of the glass, this item is in excellent condition, a classy piece of art paying tribute to one of the greats of the game.
